OHP plans to launch new PGR Tiberon® by mid-2008

In our continuing effort to add new and unique products, OHP will soon launch Tiberon® plant growth regulator (PGR). Tiberon is a branching agent and may be used on nursery plant material that will benefit from increased side shoot formation. The active ingredient in Tiberon is cyclanalide.

It works by inhibiting auxin activity. Apical dominance is suppressed and the result is reduced pruning and increased branching. Many woodies, including rhododendrons and azaleas, respond positively to Tiberon, according to Dave Barcel, OHP senior technical manager, who specializes in PGRs. With Tiberon, nursery growers will realize improved plant canopy resulting in a fuller, thicker plant for sale. Some growers will use it on mother block material, thus providing an increase of cuttings for propagation.

Barcel notes that cyclanalide, the active ingredient in Tiberon, when used on fruit trees, results in improved branch structure (feathering), better bloom response and shortened finish times for nursery fruit tree seedlings. “We have trialed Tiberon on many perennials, trees, and shrubs, ” notes Barcel. “We know it has a positive response on many plants and no effect on others. Growers need to consult the label to determine which plants have shown positive response.” OHP will continue to screen new plant cultivars for efficacy and plant responses. For more information on Tiberon, contact your local OHP representative.
